Request an Initial Closing Disclosure
Step-by-step guide to requesting an Initial Closing Disclosure — clearing the eligibility checklist, recording contacts and non-obligor borrowers, and filing the request to MeridianLink.
An Initial Closing Disclosure (ICD) request asks for the borrower's Closing Disclosure to be prepared. It builds on the Change of Circumstance form — the same reason, changed-item, and fee sections — and adds an eligibility check, plus two extra steps: Contacts and Non-Obligor Borrowers.
An ICD request needs a connected MeridianLink session
Submitting acts as you in MeridianLink — it writes the disclosure-request dates and uploads the document under your session. If an action is blocked with a "reconnect to MeridianLink" message, reconnect from your account menu and try again.
Open the request form
- Open the loan from your Pipeline (click the loan number).
- In the loan's left-hand tab rail, click Requests.
- Click New ICD request.
What happens next depends on whether the loan is ready.
Clear the eligibility check
A Closing Disclosure can only be requested once the loan reaches the right stage. When you open a new ICD request, the portal checks the loan and shows one of three things:
- The form opens — the loan passed every precondition. Continue below.
- A checklist of what's missing — one or more preconditions are not met. The form stays closed until they are. The checklist names each item and marks the ones still outstanding.
- A business-purpose notice — the loan is a business-purpose loan, and Closing Disclosures are not sent on those. The form never opens.
The preconditions are:
| Precondition | Met when |
|---|---|
| Loan status | The loan is Approved, Clear to Close, Conditions Review, Final Underwriting, or Pre-Doc QC. |
| Loan is locked | The rate is locked. |
| Final Hazard Insurance | The final hazard-insurance policy has been received. |
| Initial Approval Date | The loan has an initial approval date. |
| Appraisal | An appraisal value/date is on file — or the loan has a Property Inspection Waiver. |
The check is also enforced on submit
The eligibility check is re-run when you submit, so a loan that became ineligible after you opened the form is still rejected. The checklist is there to tell you why before you fill anything in.
Fill in the request
The top of the form mirrors a Change of Circumstance request: pick a Reason for Request, add optional Reason Detail, and check any Changed Items that apply, recording their current and new values. See Request a Change of Circumstance for how the changed-items grid, value rows, compensation, credit scores, and fees work — they behave identically here.
Contacts
Use the Contacts step to record the parties on the closing — lender, title, closing agent, buyer/listing/selling agent, and so on. For each contact, pick a Role and enter the name (company, email, phone, address, and license are optional). These are synced to the loan's agent/contact list in MeridianLink on submit.
Non-Obligor Borrowers
Use the Non-Obligor Borrowers step for anyone who holds title but is not on the loan — most often a non-borrowing spouse. Add their name and, where needed, SSN, date of birth, and address, and mark whether they hold title.
SSN and date of birth are sensitive
The non-obligor SSN is masked as you type and is never written to logs. It is sent only through the portal's secure server proxy, never directly from your browser to MeridianLink.
Submit
Click Submit ICD Request. The portal then:
- Writes the Disclosure Request date (today), an "ICD Requested" comment, and the Estimated CD date to the loan in MeridianLink.
- Syncs your Contacts and Non-Obligor Borrowers to MeridianLink.
- Renders the request to a PDF and files it to MeridianLink Documents as the CD Request Form, tagged with the date.
- Records the request in the loan's request history.
To re-open the filed form later, click View PDF on the request in the Requests list — it opens the same document in a new tab.
Documentation, not an automatic update
Like a Change of Circumstance, an ICD request documents the change values — they are captured in the PDF and the history, not pushed to the loan as field edits. Preparing the Closing Disclosure itself is handled in MeridianLink.
